Spirit of the Plains
From eons past he ruled the land
From and undisputed throne
Made from natures finest
Of earth and grass and stone
The prairie was his kingdom
Seemed to stretch without end
His anthem softly playing
On the ceaseless wind
Then a new sound was heard across the kingdom
It was the wind of change
A sound never heard before
A sound so harsh and strange
Now his kingdom is divided
As man staked off his claim
There’s a new king on the prairie
And progress is his name
Though his kingdom is divided
His spirit still remains
You can hear it if you listen
In the wind upon the plains
You can hear it if you listen
He’s the Spirit of the Plains
